SME1 - Subject Matter Expert Safety Basics Training Introduction to basic safety requirements, standards, and risks.

The Safety Basics training is intended to introduce students to basic safety requirements and standards, to address the various types of risks associated with operating machinery. It is intended to help plant personnel identify non-compliant safety issues with Lockout/Tagout, Emergency Stops, Machine Guarding, and Alternative Protective Measures.

Contents

  • Lockout/Tagout Requirements & Solutions – with a focus on LOTO Devices, LOTO Procedures, and LOTO Identification. The students will be able to identify compliant & non-compliant devices, will be able to identify, complete & correct LOTO procedures, and will be able to verify that the LOTO devices are properly installed and identified.
  • Emergency Stop Requirements & Solutions – with a focus on E-Stop Devices, installation and use.
  • Machine Guarding Requirements & Solutions – with a focus on physical guarding types, uses and options. It will help students to identify compliant and non-compliant guarding, and will show how to evaluate reach over, thru, around and under, as well as understanding the types of interlocking devices and their uses.
  • Alternative Protective Measure Requirements & Solutions – with a focus on safety input device types and uses, safety logic types and uses, safety output types and uses, and how these devices need to be connected to meet Category 3, PL d, or Control Reliable.
